Apply for your TFN (Tax File Number)

A TFN is your unique tax ID in Australia. You need it to work, open bank accounts, and lodge tax returns. Without it, you'll be taxed at the highest rate.

Why this matters

Without a TFN, your employer must take 45% tax from your pay. That's a huge chunk of your income gone.

    Your TFN arrives by mail in 28 days

Apply within your first week. The 28-day postal wait means earlier is better.
