Understand rental bonds in Queensland

QLD bonds are lodged with the RTA (Residential Tenancies Authority). Maximum is 4 weeks rent.

Why this matters

The RTA holds your bond, not your landlord. This protects your money.

How to do it

How to do it

  1. 1

    Pay bond to your landlord/agent

  2. 2

They lodge it with RTA and give you a receipt

  3. 3

You can check your bond status online via RTA

  4. 4

At move-out, use RTA's refund process

Landlords can ask for 2 weeks rent as a deposit PLUS 4 weeks bond. Budget for both.
