Claim your super when leaving Australia (DASP)

If you're leaving Australia permanently, you can claim your super money. It's called the Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP).

Why this matters

Your super is your money. Don't leave it behind when you go. But be aware it's taxed.

How to do it

How to do it

  1. 1

Apply through the ATO's DASP online system

  2. 2

Your visa must be expired or cancelled

  3. 3

DASP is taxed: 35-45% depending on your situation

  4. 4

    Processing takes 4-6 weeks

If you later return to Australia as a permanent resident, you'll wish you hadn't claimed DASP. Consider your future plans.
